Teaching and Learning in Gold Class:

As a Christian school learning from and about religion is fundamental to everything we do.  We learn about different religions in a dedicated RE lesson once a week as well as focussing on Christian values in class worship.  We learn about society and how we can be healthy and happy citizens through our weekly circle time activities and PHSCE sessions.

In Gold class we follow the National Framework for Maths and English.  As well as this we study a range of interesting topics (many chosen in line with the children’s areas of interest), integrating class trips into our school year in order to bring this learning alive. The children also have the opportunity to develop their creative side in art and DT.   We love singing at St. John’s school and singing and music are a big part of Gold class too.  We have a weekly African drumming session in class, where we all learn to play the Djembe together!  Mrs Sanderson is a keen brass player and also runs the school brass group on Wednesday lunchtime.

Homework:

It is important that Year 4 children read every day with an adult.

Homework is set weekly on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Thursday.  Homework consists of: daily reading; words of the week to learn to spell and use in sentences; a poem of the week; one other piece of literacy, numeracy or topic work to support our learning in class.

Other information:

Please make sure that all school uniform and PE kit is clearly labelled. The children should come to school wearing  PE kit on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle to school every day as this will avoid dehydration.

Please let the school and the class teacher know if your child has any allergies that we do not already know about, or needs to take any medication.

Please remind your child to bring a coat every day in the winter months.

If you need to discuss anything with Mrs Carroll or Miss Garbett please feel free to make an appointment before or after school.  We will be more than happy to help you!
